This may particularly be the case for military service members. OEF/OIF soldiers face a number of highly stressful situations, including deployment, combat exposure, and reintegration. Given this, it is really not that surprising that OEF/OIF veterans are showing high rates of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), alcohol use,  anger management problems, physical health problems, and suicide). However, many do not seek out treatment for these difficulties. In fact, one study found that only about half get treatment. Stigma as a Barrier to Seeking Treatment According to an article in the American Psychological Associations Monitor on Psychology, a major reason many service members do not seek out treatment is the stigma associated with receiving mental health care. Many service members are worried that disclosing psychological difficulties or seeking out mental health treatment will negatively affect their military careers. However, the consequences of not seeking out treatment can be dire. Untreated psychological difficulties may only get worse and could have a major impact on a soldiers ability to perform in combat or at home when they return from duty. What Is Being Done to Combat Stigma The Department of Defense has recognized that stigma is a major problem in the armed forces, and as a result, every branch of the military is taking steps to combat the stigma associated with mental health problems and seeking out treatment. For example, to limit fear that the report of psychological difficulties will negatively impact security clearance, the Department of Defense no longer requires people to report if they have sought out mental health care for combat-related reasons. In addition, high-ranking military personnel is sharing their experiences with PTSD and the treatment they received. The Department of Defense is also attempting to convey that the experience of stress as a result of combat-related experiences is normal. Finally, the Department of Defense launched an anti-stigma campaign called the Real Warriors Campaign. This campaign is designed to promote resilience, recovery, and support for returning service members, veterans, and their families. Canadian Governor General Michalle Jean Biography

A well-known journalist and broadcaster in Quebec, Michaà «lle Jean emigrated from Haiti with her family at an early age. Fluent in five languages—French, English, Italian, Spanish and Haitian Creole—Jean became the first black governor general of Canada in 2005. A social activist for women and children at risk, Jean planned to use the office of governor general to help disadvantaged young people. Jean is married to filmmaker Jean-Daniel Lafond and has a young daughter. Governor General of Canada Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin chose Jean to be the governor general of Canada, and in August 2005, it was announced Queen Elizabeth II approved the choice. After Jeans appointment, some questioned her loyalty, because of reports of her and her husbands support of Quebec independence, as well as her dual French and Canadian citizenship. She repeatedly denounced reports of her separatist sentiments, as well as denounced her French citizenship. Jean was sworn into office Sept. 27, 2005 and served as the 27th governor general of Canada until Oct. 1, 2010. Birth Jean was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti in 1957. At the age of 11 in 1968, Jean and her family fled the Papa Doc Duvalier dictatorship and settled in Montreal. Education Jean has a BA in Italian, Hispanic languages and literature from the University of Montreal. She earned her masters degree in comparative literature from the same institution. Jean also studied languages and literature at the University of Perouse, the University of Florence and the Catholic University of Milan. Early Professions Jean worked as a university lecturer while completing her masters degree. She also worked as a social activist, as well as a journalist and broadcaster. Michaà «lle Jean as Social Activist From 1979 to 1987, Jean worked with Quebec shelters for battered women and helped establish a network of emergency shelters in Quebec. She coordinated a study on women as victims in abusive relationships, which was published in 1987, and she has also worked with aid organizations for immigrant women and families. Jean also worked at Employment and Immigration Canada and at the Conseil des Communautà ©s culturelles du Quà ©bec. After the Governor General Office Jean has remained publicly active after her service as the federal representative of the Canadian monarch. She served as a special envoy of the United Nations to Haiti to work on education and poverty issues in the country, and she was also the chancellor of the University of Ottawa from 2012 to 2015. Beginning on Jan. 5, 2015, Jean began a four-year mandate as the secretary general of the International Organization of La Francophonie, which represents countries and regions where French language and culture has a significant presence.

Slaughter House Five Explore the use of "So it goes." Is it to be viewed as resignation to the horrors of death? Is it Billy's response? Vonnegut's? Yours? ?So it goes? is Billy Pilgrim's theory regarding death. He is simply saying that death is no big deal. Since he saw so much death in World War II, and witnessed a bombing two times as worse as Hiroshima, he deals with death much differently than others. Because of everything he has gone through, Billy has become numb to death. It has become a regular situation in his life. Billy first uses this saying on page 2, when he is talking about the death of Gerhard Muller's mother. Because Billy often travels to and from Tralfamadore, he has become accustomed to using their theories about life. ?When a Tralfamadorian sees a corpse, all he thinks is that the dead person is in a bad condition in that particular moment, but that the same person is just fine in plenty of other moments. Now, when I myself hear that somebody is dead, I simply shrug and say what the Tralfamadorians say about dead people, which is ?So it Goes'? (27). Billy thinks that there is no complete death, and it has no finality. Humans are often outraged at his theory when they hear Billy talking about it. They cannot comprehend how someone can be so emotionless about death. ?The most important thing that I learned on Tralfamadore was that when a person dies he only appears to die. He is still very much alive in the past, so it is very silly for people to cry at his funeral. All moments, past, present, and future, always have existed, always will exist? (26-27). Billy uses this as a defense mechanism for life. This shows that Billy will always live in a dream world. Billy's response is Vonnegut's response in Slaughterhouse-Five. But, Vonnegut's memories were too painful for him, so he tells his life through Billy Pilgrim. It is viewed as a resignation to the horrors of death because Vonnegut had lived through many tough points in American history; the stock market crash of 1929, the Great Depression, and finally World War II. 7. Explain the significance of all the material on the title page of this novel. The title page leads off with the other name Kurt Vonnegut gave Slaughterhouse-Five - The Children's Crusade. This title came from both Mary O'Hare at the beginning of the book and Edgar Derby. Mary became very angry when her husband was talking to Vonnegut because she did not want her children, who were just babies at the time to give up their lives for the war. "You'll pretend you were men instead of babies, and you'll be played in the movies by Frank Sinatra and John Wayne or some of those other glamorous, war-loving, dirty old men. And war will look just wonderful, so we'll have a lot more of them. And they'll be fought by babies like the babies upstairs" (14). Derby used "The Children's Crusade" towards the middle of the book when he was telling the colonel how young every American was in the war. "A duty-dance with death" refers to the fact that it was the American soldiers task to fight for their country even if it meant that they were going to die. Vonnegut shows this by retelling his thoughts and experiences of World War II through Billy. Now Vonnegut lives in Cape Cod, and is "smoking too much.? Since the war is over and he is retired, Vonnegut can now relax and enjoy vacation. He does this often by smoking. "An American Infantry Scout Hors de Combat" refers to him being a foot soldier in combat during the war. He witnessed the fire-bombing of Dresden, Germany. The fire-bombing of Dresden, Germany was a secret ambush of the United States that had double the casualties of those in Hiroshima, Japan from the atomic bomb. Florence is a cultural city in Rome, and the Elbe is a river in Germany. So by Vonnegut saying, "The Florence of the Elbe," he is referring to Dresden as the cultural city of Germany before it got blown into smithereens by the Americans. Vonnegut ?survived to tell the tale.? He was able to survive even after being a prisoner of war (P.O.W.) for a good portion of the war. Slaughterhouse-Five is told ?somewhat in the telegraphic schizophrenic manner.? The Tralfamadorians communicated telepathically. They talked to each other through transference of thought. Patrick Henry on Freedom essays On March 23rd 1775, Patrick Henry, known to many as a great patriot, gave his speech on freedom at the Virginia Convention. After making it to the podium, he started off explaining that he was going to be brutally honest and he hoped that no one would take offense to his arguments. Henry advanced his argument by employing two important literary devices, allusion and syntax and structure, to create an emotional appeal to his audience in order to start a revolution. Henry was straight forward in his speech. In paragraph one, lines six and seven he states, I shall speak forth my sentiments freely, and without reserve. This statement meant that he will argue all of the opinions he has towards the British rule without any worries on how others might feel from what he says. In lines 27-28, Henry is metaphorically calling experience a lamp, he is saying that experience will show or light the way for the future. There is a Biblical allusion here to the scripture which says that Gods word (which is truth) is a lamp unto thy feet and a light unto thy path. This is an appeal to authority (God and the Bible) and an appeal to beliefs because it shows him as a spiritual person. Henry uses symbolism and allusion to underscore the English governments wrong doing against the colonists. He expresses symbolism from the bible to emphasize that the British have violated every colonists civil rights and that they should take action. As suggested in lines 33-34; when Henry states it will prove a snare to your feet, Henry is referring to the House in England and the British ministry being a snare for their feet. Then Henry uses mythical allusion by referencing to Homers Odyssey in lines 19-20, listen to the song of that siren, till she transforms us into beasts. These notable scams target job hunters at their most vulnerable. Learn them and remember them, so as not to be suckered in by predators taking advantage of your desperation to get hired. Scam  #1: Application FeesBeing out of work can be humiliating enough; don’t fall victim to a scam this outlandish. This is illegal in most states, and could even be considered a form of discrimination.
